Sommerville Manor School is a private, non-denominational school located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.  Nearly 300 students attend our school ranging from the Junior Kindergarten to Grade Eight level.  Our mission is to develop lifelong learners who are adaptable, responsible, caring and who always try to do and be their best.  This is achieved by providing an environment in which children learn how to live responsibly, become independent learners, and grow as an individual.  Our motto, which is embedded within our school crest, reminds all students, parents and faculty of these ideals:  Vivere, Discere, Crescere.  More information about our mission and approach can be found in the Philosophy section.

The school has been in operation since 1992 and its growth has been consistently guided by the founder and principal, Win Johnson.  Our fully air-conditioned 31,000 ft2 facility is located in central Mississauga only a few minutes from Square One.  We have 24 full size classrooms including newly renovated rooms dedicated to Music, Art, Drama, and Science.  Our 3,500 ft2 gymnasium is fully outfitted with high quality equipment for students to enjoy.  The library boasts an impressive array of fiction and non-fiction materials for students, thousands of resources for teachers, and an integrated, Internet-connected computer lab where every child receives regular computer instruction and time to apply their skills.  The outdoor playground was fully renovated during the summer of 2007.  It provides areas for older students to play soccer, basketball, tennis, four-square, or just relax, talk and have a snack. Younger students enjoy the use of two modern play structures in a beautifully landscaped environment.  An online tour is available to view.

The Sommerville Parent's Association (SPA) have been tireless over the years in their efforts to raise funds and invest them directly back into the school.  Through their efforts, they have been able to provide all students with superb extras and specialized equipment, such as audio-visual and sports equipment, that greatly enhances their educational experience.  Sommerfest is a public event held in late May.  This fair has a carnival atmosphere and includes  dozens of activities including games, bingo, used book/video/toy sale, silent auction, barbeque, and much more.  It is a favourite day among the school community and a significant fundraiser.

Sommerville Manor is actively involved in many charitable organizations and we participate in various activities throughout the year to raise funds.  In September 2005, for example, the students, parents and staff helped raise $6,750 for the Terry Fox Foundation during our walk-a-thon and 'Twoonie-for-Terry' Talent Show. In February 2006, the school raised over $8,500 during the MS Readathon.  In April 2007, the school raised $4,000 in just four days for St. Janani Luwum School in Kitgum, Uganda.  Over the past decade, we have raised over $20,000 for the Hospital for Sick Children.  More information about our fundraising efforts appears in the Activities section.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and consider our school for your child.  Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions or if you would like to request a personalized tour of our facility.
