Do you like to learn how to spell new words? Do you want to improve your spelling skills? Do you want to compete against other students to become the top speller for your grade, division or even the whole school? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then the Junior/Intermediate Spelling Bee Club is the club for you! We will be meeting on Wednesdays during lunch recess to practice, learn compete and eventually to make Sommerville's first ever Spelling Bee Team.

Primary Readers Den runs all year on Thursdays from 12:20 to 12:45 in the library. This is a drop-in programme where students are welcome to listen to books on tape or CD, read 3-D books, or check out the shelves for new reading material. No registration is required and students may come any Thursday. It is a great opportunity to get to know the library better in a relaxed, unstructured environment. All primary students are welcome.

J/I readers den runs all year in the library on Wednesdays from 11:55 to 12:20. This is a drop-in programme for all students in grades 4 to 8. It is a great opportunity to search for new reading material, peruse some of our in-school resources, or just catch up on your reading. Students may attend any Wednesday, but must remain in the library the entire time.

The robotics team meets every Monday and Wednesday after school until 5pm. The team is preparing for their First Lego League Food Factor Tournament in December 2011.

J/I choir is held on Thursday at lunch recess.

The card making club is offered to students in grade 3. We will be making a variety of greeting cards based on special occasions and holidays depending on the time of year. This will be offered one Monday a month throughout the school year. Cards will include Christmas, Valentine's, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Birthday, Thank you, and a free choice. 

All students in grades 1, 2 and 3 are invited to participate in our Primary Choir which is held during the lunch hour each Wednesday. Primary Choir begins in October and we work on preparing songs for the Christmas concert; every year our Primary Choir is one of the major highlights of this concert and parents are always amazed by the calibre of their performance.

Choir members take a short break after the holidays and in March our weekly practices begin again as we prepare our repertoire for the end of year Musicfest concert. All of the songs we sing in primary Choir are FUN, and the children thoroughly enjoy themselves. Many songs are action songs, which the children particularly enjoy and there are also opportunities for solo performances for those students who wish to showcase their talents on stage. It is always a joy to work with the Primary children in choir; they certainly know how to enjoy music!

The Yearbook Committee works all year round to put together a fun and accurate representation on the school year.  Our goal is to include the entire school body as we create a memorable book for each student to be able to look back on and remember.

We meet each Monday after school throughout the school year.
