Reading Mentors

Reading Mentors is held after school for two terms each year.  The programme involves Junior/Intermediate Mentors reading with a Senior Kindergarten or Grade One student in the library.  The older students spend 20 to 30 minutes reading books which the younger students have selected.  Often the younger students start to read to their Mentor as well. The atmosphere is very relaxed and meant to foster a love of reading.

Environment

We all have a responsibility to help keep our Earth clean, and students at Sommerville Manor School have recognized this.  Members of the Environment Club do an excellent job of running their student lead activities year round, under the supervision of Mrs. Mervyn.  Areas of this club include: student monitored “light police”, recycling education, environment friendly “tip of the week”, litter pick-up, and many fundraising functions and events.   So if you’re keen about being green, then the Environment Club is a place for you!
