Making us Proud

Sommerville Manor School students receive reward for exemplary service-oriented attitude towards local Tim Horton's manager

On Wednesday November 9th five of our grade 7 students hurried off at 12 o'clock for their weekly off-site lunch and headed to the local Tim Horton's. Little did they know that this was to be the day that they unknowingly made us very proud at Sommerville.

Once they had ordered their lunch, the students went to look for a table, and were approached by the store manager, Mr. David Hoey, who offered to help them put two tables together so that the five of them could enjoy their lunch as a group. Not knowing that this person was the store manager, and feeling very grateful for his help, the students thanked him and one of them said, "Can I buy you a coffee?" At this point he disclosed to them that he was in fact the store manager, but thanked them for their offer.

The following day, Mr. Hoey came to the school to tell us how incredibly impressed he was with what had happened and the way in which the students had responded. He said they had "made his day!" To show his gratitude to them, he presented each of them with a Power Charging Mat, and donated a number of Tim Horton's gift cards to the school. A most generous gesture.

Congratulations to Myles, Edward, Alexa, Frances and Jasveen; your spontaneous behaviour made us all very proud of you. Well done!

J/I Readers Den

J/I readers den runs all year in the library on Wednesdays from 11:55 to 12:20. This is a drop-in programme for all students in grades 4 to 8. It is a great opportunity to search for new reading material, peruse some of our in-school resources, or just catch up on your reading. Students may attend any Wednesday, but must remain in the library the entire time.
