Welcome to Sommerville Manor School!

Sommerville Manor School was established in 1992 to provide parents with an individualized approach to their child's education.  We endeavour to impart to your child a love of learning, a dedication to doing and being their best, and a solid educational foundation that will serve them throughout their lives.

Our playground features the highest quality equipment and activities.  Our younger students enjoy playing and exploring on our playscapes. Gross motor development, positive social interaction and outdoor play are primary objectives at this level.

Our older students enjoy a soccer area, basketball court, and various other activities and games on our professionally designed playground.  In addition, our physical education programme benefits from a full size, outdoor soccer field created for Sommerville's exclusive use.

Our Junior Kindergarten is a full-day programme which creates a warm, stimulating and positive atmosphere within the classroom. Our staff strives to ensure that the child's first experience of school is a good one. Only in this way can we prepare our students for the academic challenges of the school years ahead.

Our classrooms are spacious, clean, bright and well-equipped!  The full-day Senior Kindergarten classes are busy places where students enjoy a structured program.  The SK programme forms a solid foundation on which students can build their skills and concepts in the primary grades.

Students in Grades 5 to 8 enjoy instruction from teachers who are specially trained in the specific subjects they teach.  In addition, as in the Grade 6 mathematics class pictured above, students generally study at one grade level ahead.

Teachers at Sommerville get to know their students very well, and, more importantly, they know your child's specific learning needs, strengths and weakness.  The result is highly effective instruction which allows for an individualized approach when implementing the curriculum.

Special care is taken to ensure that students are given the highest quality education.  Our academic program is challenging and rigorous without being stifling!  Our teachers hold high expectations of students, and students are taught to expect success through diligence and organization.

Sommerville is continuously upgrading equipment and resources that are essential to every student's success.  Our computer lab offers an up-to-date computer network with spacious workstations for each student.  Students in the senior grades receive formal, weekly instruction in specific computer skills.

Our library is centrally located so that its resources can be easily accessed by all students and teachers.  The library is ideally suited for research and collaborative group work.  Students use these resources on a daily basis to enhance and support their learning.

The school library is home to a vast array of print, audio, video, and electronic resources that can be efficiently accessed by students and staff.  Our collection is constantly being reviewed, catalogued, and expanded by our dedicated school librarian.

Our science lab is a self-contained classroom which has been specially equipped to support the  science and technology programme.  Students enjoy regular opportunities to make first-hand observations of natural phenomena and conduct experiments to test theories.

Sommerville's Music programme provides outstanding opportunities for students to develop understanding and appreciation of music, as well as practical skills, so that they will be able to find in music a lifelong source of enjoyment and personal satisfaction.

The Art curriculum is intended to help students develop their creativity and enhance their ability to communicate information, ideas and emotions through a visual art form.  Students enjoy many opportunities in sketching, painting, pastel, print-making, modeling, and more.

The Drama programme begins in JK; various role play activities stimulate the act of imagination that is of central importance in the development of the ability to understand others.  Older students learn to create and critique Dramatic works which stimulates an exploration of the human condition.

Sommerville's Physical Education and Health programmes teach students the skills, knowledge and attitudes they need in order to maintain physical fitness, to develop healthy eating habits, and to deal with social and physiological issues that are relevant to their particular age group.
